How does the law apply?
While driving, you will be breaking the law if you pick up or use any type of phone that is, or must be, held to operate it.

If you breach the law the new penalties are:
• 3 penalty points
• Fixed penalty notice fine increased to £60
• Cases dealt with by the court can incur a fine of up to £2,500

Using Hands Free Car Kits
It is always an offence to not be in control of your vehicle, but if you do need to use your mobile phone whilst in the car, a professionally fitted hands free car kit is the best way to stay safe and avoid any fines or points on your licence.

You don't have to be caught many times to be disqualified. If you get just six points in the first two years after passing your test, you will lose your licence under the New Drivers Act.
